Can you believe we are already staring down the end of May? The school calendar is winding down, the weather is warming up, and the local event calendar is officially packed to the brim.

This week features everything from sunset karaoke at the Fountains to a campfire storytelling night at the Maidu Museum. It is the perfect excuse to get out of the house and enjoy the spaces that make our towns feel like home. We have also got a quick look at a dream trip to Sicily if you are looking to completely escape the usual summer tourist traps this year.

Rocklin Backs $2.23M Loan for Senior Affordable Housing

The Gist: The Rocklin City Council approved a $2.23 million loan Tuesday to help fund The Steven, a 180-unit affordable apartment complex for seniors 55 and older near Sierra College. Monthly rents will range from about $650 to $1,850 for residents earning 30% to 70% of area median income.
Why It Matters: With housing costs squeezing older residents, this project adds much-needed affordable options close to home, complete with a pool, fitness room, dog park, and support services.
What's Next: The Steven anchors College Park, a 108-acre mixed-use development partnering Sierra College, Evergreen Sierra East LLC, and Cresleigh Homes.
Roseville High Dives Into a $14M Aquatic Upgrade
The Gist: Roseville High School just unveiled a newly renovated $14 million aquatics complex, featuring a 25-yard-by-35-meter competition pool built to match the standards of West Park and Granite Bay high schools. The project was funded through developer fees and state matching modernization funds.
Why It Matters: The upgraded facility opens the door for local water polo tournaments, swim invitationals, league finals, camps, and off-season training right here in Roseville.
What's Next: The aquatics center is part of a larger $40 million modernization project that also includes a new two-story classroom building, six tennis courts, and a fully enclosed campus.

A patio pick worth repeating

9260 Sierra College Blvd Ste 600, Roseville, CA
Scoreboards Pizza & Grill has the kind of easygoing setup that makes it useful in more situations than you expect. It is family owned, it leans casual without feeling phoned in, and the place seems to know exactly what it is, part neighborhood pizza stop, part sports bar, part patio hang. Families, kids, and even dogs on the patio are welcome, which tells you a lot about the vibe before the food even shows up.
The menu gives you plenty of excuses to come back. Their margherita pizza gets the spotlight on the site, and the homemade mozzarella sticks, wings, and burgers all get their own love too. It feels like the sort of place where a simple dinner can turn into staying for one more drink or one more quarter of the game.

A thrift stop that does more

1725 Santa Clara Drive, Suite 130, Roseville, CA
ReNew Store is one of those Roseville spots that makes browsing feel extra satisfying. The shop offers clothing, shoes, accessories, upcycled furniture, home decor, housewares, and more, with the inventory changing often enough that it rewards repeat visits. It has that useful mix of thrift-store surprise and boutique presentation that makes it easy to wander a little longer than planned.
What really gives it weight is where the money goes. The store says 100 percent of proceeds support Acres of Hope, which helps women and children experiencing homelessness. So the shopping trip comes with a little more purpose than usual, especially if you are the kind of person who likes a good find and a good cause at the same time.
Skip the Typical Resort This Summer. Stay in a Centuries-Old Sicilian Village Instead.
Casa Gratteri offers beautifully restored homes in Gratteri, a hidden mountain town in Sicily with sweeping views, deep history, and zero crowds. Full concierge service, a private chef on request, and modern finishes throughout. This is the kind of trip people talk about for the rest of their lives.
