An old golf course just got 16 new courts

Rocklin unveils Sunset Whitney pickleball courts

The Gist: Rocklin officially celebrated the opening of a brand-new 16-court pickleball complex at the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area yesterday, Oct. 7.
The $2.9 million project located at 4201 Midas Ave. features fenced courts,
ADA-accessible pathways, and full lighting for evening play.

Why It Matters: The complex gives local players of all ages and skill levels a dedicated home for one of the nation's fastest-growing sports. It turns a long-vacant golf course into a lively gathering spot where neighbors can stay active, connect, and enjoy the outdoors.

Placer County pals take on The Amazing Race

The Gist: Conner Wilson and Garrett McGuire are taking their 24-year friendship global as competitors on CBS's The Amazing Race. The duo, who first met when their strollers collided at Monte Verde Park as toddlers, traveled more than 25,000 miles around the world to compete for the $1 million grand prize.

Why It Matters: It is not every day hometown friends represent our community on the national stage. Both Wilson and McGuire returned home to Placer County after college, and seeing two local kids race across the globe brings a fun dose of local pride.
