April has that particular energy, the kind where you actually want to go outside without being told twice. Baseball is back, the hills are green, and downtown Roseville is about to host something that hasn't been seen around here since the last time rail fans camped out on Atlantic Street. If you've got kids (or a deeply held personal enthusiasm for locomotives), keep April 10-11 completely clear. More on that below.

In the meantime, we found a Turkish-and-Greek mezze spot in Roseville that's quietly become one of the most talked-about dinner tables in Placer County, plus a record store in Rocklin that feels like someone's very well-organized personal collection opened its doors to the public. Good week to be local.

Shareable plates, handcrafted cocktails, and zero regrets

1475 Eureka Rd, Ste 100, Roseville

If your usual dinner rotation is starting to feel predictable, Pera Mezze House is the reset you didn’t know you needed. This Turkish and Greek mezze spot leans into sharing, with small plates arriving all at once, from garlicky dumplings to citrusy grilled octopus, crispy halloumi with honey, and standout lamb skewers.

Cocktails and a thoughtful wine list keep things flowing, making it an easy choice for long, relaxed meals with good company.

A Rocklin record shop that operates on vinyl time

3101 Sunset Blvd, Ste 2A, Rocklin

Step inside Hi-Tones Record Store and it’s easy to lose track of time flipping through rows of music history. The shelves are packed with new and used vinyl, along with CDs, cassettes, movies, comics, and band tees spanning every era.

There’s always something unexpected waiting in the bins, whether you’re hunting for a rare find or revisiting old favorites. The whole experience feels easygoing, nostalgic, and quietly exciting.

Giant Steam Train Rolls Into Roseville

The Gist: Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will stop in downtown Roseville April 10 and 11. The visit includes a public display and a free “Big Boy Bash” with food, music, and family activities nearby. The event runs April 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. and April 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with early arrival recommended.

Why It Matters: This rare visit brings a piece of railroad history to town and offers a memorable experience for families and train fans. Moments like this bring the whole community together in the best way.

New Neighborhood Park Approved in Roseville

The Gist: Roseville approved plans for a $580,000 neighborhood park on Supernova Lane in West Roseville. The park will include a playground, picnic areas, walking paths, and open turf space, with possible additions like a basketball half-court. Construction bids open this month, with a contract expected in May.

Why It Matters: New parks give nearby families more space to relax, play, and connect close to home. A fresh park like this adds another welcoming spot for neighbors to gather and enjoy the outdoors.
