Freedom Flight: Rehabilitated Swainson’s Hawk Soars Again Near Lincoln
The Gist: After more than three months of care at Gold Country Wildlife Rescue, a Swainson’s hawk, one of California’s threatened species, was released back into the wild near Lincoln. Under the guidance of Master Falconer Kari Freidig, the hawk regained full flight strength following a car collision injury.
Why It Matters: The release marks a small but meaningful victory for local wildlife conservation, returning a threatened raptor to its natural habitat just in time for migration to South America.

Jollibee Takes Flight in Roseville’s Fried Chicken Wars
The Gist: Beloved Filipino chain Jollibee is opening its first West Coast franchised restaurant in Roseville early next year. Known for its crispy “Chickenjoy” and sweet-style spaghetti, the brand is expanding fast to compete with U.S. heavyweights like Chick-fil-A and KFC.
Why It Matters: Roseville will be home to Jollibee’s newest outpost as the company aims to grow to hundreds of U.S. locations by 2028, adding fresh local flavor to the national chicken competition.
