It officially feels like that sweet spot of the year where the evenings are long, the air is warm, and nobody is quite ready to head inside after sundown. If you are looking for a reason to pack up a lawn chair and get out of the house, our local calendar is completely packed.

From a world class pump track championship qualifier over at Whitney Park to a massive community cornhole tournament at Mahany Park, there is plenty of energy around town this weekend. Grab your sunglasses, take a look at the lineup below, and go enjoy the sunshine.

A world-class pump track race is coming to Rocklin

The Gist: Rocklin is hosting the Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships USA Qualifier at Whitney Park on June 6. The city is billing it as a chance for riders to compete for a spot on the world stage in China, which is not exactly your everyday Saturday park event.

Why It Matters: This is a big-name sports event landing right in Rocklin, and it gives local families a rare chance to watch high-level pump track racing without driving far. Even if you do not race, it should be a fun one to see in person.

Folsom's Tiniest Star: Sand Cat Margo Goes Viral

The Gist: Margo, a toothless sand cat at the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary, is having her moment. A May 5 Instagram post featuring her hiss, captioned "Revenge of the Hisssss!" in a Star Wars nod, pulled in nearly 10,000 likes and 74,000 views. Fans tuned in from Japan, Russia, Hungary, and Poland.

Why It Matters: Folsom has a new global ambassador, and she fits in the palm of your hand.

Belgian comfort on Vernon Street

240 Vernon Street, Roseville, CA

The Monk’s Cellar feels like one of those downtown Roseville places that has earned its regulars honestly. Founder Andy Klein was inspired by Belgian brewing traditions, and the restaurant still carries that mix of casual warmth, good beer, and food that feels made for lingering instead of rushing.

The kitchen has enough comfort built in to make it easy to over-order. Soft pretzels with spicy mustard and pub cheese, the Craftsman Chicken Sandwich, Scotch eggs, duck fat fries, burgers, fish and chips, and a proper beer list make this a strong dinner move before a Vernon Street walk or a longer night out.

It also has a little bragging-rights energy behind it. The Monk’s Cellar notes that it was named Brewery of the Year at the California State Fair Commercial Beer Competition in both 2023 and 2025.

A smarter summer stop

1501 Pleasant Grove Blvd, Roseville, CA

Roseville Utility Exploration Center is one of those local places that makes learning feel a lot less like homework. The center focuses on energy, water, waste, recycling, and everyday conservation, which sounds serious until you realize how much of it is built around hands-on displays and kid-friendly curiosity.

It is especially useful in summer, when parents need an outing that is not just another screen or another snack run. Roseville is also highlighting summer fun and activity ideas through the center’s broader city programming, which makes now a good time to put it back on the family radar.

It is not flashy, but it is practical and surprisingly helpful once kids start asking big questions about where things go and how the city works.
