The Gist: Placer SPCA celebrated the grand opening of its new 8,800-square-foot Veterinary and Foster Care Center in Roseville with a ribbon cutting and community open house. Over 300 people toured the medical-grade facility that will quadruple spay and neuter surgeries, speed up medical care for shelter animals, and add an isolation ward, expanded pharmacy space, and better recovery areas.

Why It Matters: Roseville now has expanded veterinary capacity to help thousands more local animals and their families access timely, high-quality care.

The Gist: Hundreds of Folsom Cordova Unified School District students swapped their desks for workplaces on Feb. 3 during Career Technical Education Job Shadow Day. They spent the day exploring careers at more than 20 local businesses and agencies, including Dokken Engineering, Marshall Medical Center, Sacramento Police Department, and City of Folsom. Afterward, Cordova High culinary students served lunch, showcasing their own career skills.

Why It Matters: Hands-on exposure helps local students envision real career paths and build connections with businesses right here in the community.
