We love highlighting the hidden gems and local organizations that make our towns feel like true communities. This week, we are taking a closer look at a downtown Roseville arts academy that is doing incredible work building confidence in local kids through theatre, and they have a perfectly spooky summer show opening this weekend.

From youth spotlight performances to neighborhood dog adoption events, it's a great reminder of the amazing people working behind the scenes to keep our local culture vibrant.

Rocklin’s Friday food distribution returns this week

The Gist: Feeding the Foothills is back at Johnson-Springview Park on Friday, June 26, with its PantryToGo food distribution. The Rocklin event offers fresh fruits, vegetables, and other food support, and residents are also allowed to pick up food for others who cannot make it in person.

Why It Matters: This is one of those practical local resources that quietly matters a lot. Summer can stretch family budgets fast, and a free food distribution in a central Rocklin park gives neighbors a simple way to get help without a long drive.

Lincoln is still asking residents to look ahead on water

The Gist: Lincoln is continuing public review of its 2025 Urban Water Management Plan and Water Shortage Contingency Plan. The draft documents are available online and at City Hall and Twelve Bridges Library, with the plans covering supply, demand, conservation, and shortage response.

Why It Matters: Water planning does not usually make for flashy headlines, but it touches daily life quickly. As Lincoln grows, these plans help shape how the city thinks about reliability, future neighborhoods, landscaping, and hotter years ahead.

A Lincoln dinner with polish

1200 Athens Avenue, Lincoln, CA

High Steaks is the kind of Lincoln dinner stop you save for when the night needs to feel a little more intentional. Tucked inside Thunder Valley Casino Resort, the restaurant calls itself an AAA Four Diamond-rated steakhouse, and the whole setup leans into that polished, grown-up dinner energy.

The menu direction is exactly what you would expect from a serious steakhouse, with prime rib, steakhouse sides, bar seating, chef-driven specials, and a dining room built more for lingering than rushing. It is also open later on weekends, which makes it a strong pre-show or post-show move when Thunder Valley has a big concert on the calendar.

It is not the casual weeknight option. It is the “let’s actually make a night of it” option.

Where Roseville kids find the spotlight

9615 E Stockton Blvd, Elk Grove, CA

Roseville Theatre Arts Academy is one of those local places that makes the arts feel reachable, not intimidating. The academy works with kids, teens, and families through youth productions, summer camps, workshops, field trips, and mainstage programming, all from its downtown Roseville home.

That matters this week because the young performers are stepping into Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom Of The Auditorium, which feels like exactly the kind of summer show that can pull in kids who might not usually ask to go to theatre. It is spooky, familiar, and still very much a live performance.

RTAA’s bigger mission is also easy to like. They talk about building confidence, teamwork, friendship, and character through music, dance, and theatre, and that is the kind of local work that sticks with kids long after curtain call.
