Visit the pumpkin patch that funds job trainings

Rocklin Judo celebrates its grand opening

The Gist: Rocklin Judo is opening its doors at 6015 Pacific St. #7 with a grand opening celebration on Saturday, October 17th. Families can check out live demos, facility tours, food trucks and interactive sessions for kids ages 6 to 15. Two-time Olympian Pierre Sene will also be there for meet-and-greets, photos and autographs.

Why It Matters: We love seeing new opportunities for kids to build confidence, stay active and try something new. The grand opening is a fun way for us to explore the sport, meet the instructors and even snag two weeks of free lessons.

Compassion Planet’s pumpkin patch gives back

The Gist: Compassion Planet’s pumpkin patch at Deer Creek Farm is open through October 31, with free admission and pumpkins priced individually. Proceeds fund the nonprofit’s 12- to 18-month mentoring program for young adults ages 18 to 24, offering job training, life-skills education and employment opportunities.

Why It Matters: Pumpkin picking is a fun fall tradition, and this one gives us a chance to make a difference while we’re at it. Every pumpkin purchase helps local young adults transitioning out of foster care gain the skills, support and confidence they need to build independent lives.
