It finally feels like spring has decided to stay a while. The mornings are crisp enough for a light jacket, but by the time school lets out, it is perfect park weather. We spent a little time over at Johnson-Springview recently and saw the crews getting ready for the festival season.

It is a great reminder of how much this community shows up for one another. I hope you get some time to enjoy the fresh air before the real summer heat finds us.

Rocklin Festival Returns to Fight Local Hunger

The Gist: The 16th Annual Rocklin Community Festival rolls into Johnson-Springview Park May 7-10, with carnival rides, live music, food trucks, and family fun. Proceeds support Feeding the Foothills and other Kiwanis causes across Placer, El Dorado, and Nevada counties.
Why It Matters: Food insecurity is climbing locally as costs rise and federal programs shrink. Last year's festival raised $34,000 for neighbors in need.
Roseville Parkway Widening Set for Summer 2026

The Gist: The City of Roseville is launching a two-phase project to widen Roseville Parkway between Gibson Drive and Creekside Ridge Drive. Phase 1 starts summer 2026 with new turn lanes, intersection upgrades at Galleria Boulevard, and a fresh bus turnout. Phase 2 expands the corridor to four lanes each direction, potentially starting 2028-29.
Why It Matters: This stretch links major shopping, offices, and neighborhoods, so smoother flow means easier daily drives for thousands of locals.
What's Next: Expect lane closures during construction, but no full shutdowns or holiday-season work.

A little Germany in Rocklin

4810 Granite Dr Ste 1A, Rocklin, CA
Kathrin’s Biergarten has a very specific charm, and that is exactly why it works. It is family-run, German-rooted, and built around the kind of cozy biergarten atmosphere that feels more like a hangout than a quick dinner stop. The restaurant says it offers imported German draft beers, house-brewed craft beers, and authentic home-style meals, which is pretty much the right combination for a long dinner with friends.
The menu gives you plenty to work with once you sit down. Currywurst, schnitzel, and other German staples make this more than a novelty stop, and the whole place leans into a welcoming, unhurried feel that fits the food. It feels especially well suited for a weekend dinner when you want something different from the usual Rocklin rotation.

Custom gear, done local

4231 Pacific Street, Ste. 7, Rocklin, CA
Threads Express is one of those businesses that makes a lot of local operations look sharper without most people ever realizing where the work started. The Rocklin shop focuses on custom apparel and branded goods, with screen printing, embroidery, engraving, and promotional products all handled locally.
There is a nice practical range to what they do too. Hats, polos, bags, tumblers, water bottles, logo design help, rush services, and appointment-based consultations all make it feel like a good fit for schools, teams, small businesses, and anyone trying to make branded gear look less generic. The husband-and-wife ownership angle also gives it a more personal feel than a big online print shop.
Skip the Typical Resort This Summer. Stay in a Centuries-Old Sicilian Village Instead.
Casa Gratteri offers beautifully restored homes in Gratteri, a hidden mountain town in Sicily with sweeping views, deep history, and zero crowds. Full concierge service, a private chef on request, and modern finishes throughout. This is the kind of trip people talk about for the rest of their lives.
